Minnie Ella Southern, age 80, a native of Rocky Hill, Ala., and resident of Foley, died Sunday, July 29, 2012.
Mrs. Southern was a life-long teacher. Upon receiving her master’s degree in elementary education from the University of South Alabama, she went on to teach in the Baldwin County School System for 34 years, where she touched many lives. A member of First Baptist Church in Foley, Mrs. Southern liked to read, loved flowers, and especially loved her family that included her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Alan and Lillian Elizabeth Wiggins Jay, and her husband, Acie Martin Southern. Survivors of Mrs. Southern include her son, James (Vickey) Southern of Foley; daughter, Lynda (Jody) Johnson of Elberta; grandson, Jamie Southern; granddaughters, Angela Southern of Foley and Jessica Holley of Auburn; great-granddaughter, Lilly McGregor of Foley; and great-grandson, Riley McGregor of Foley. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow directly at 2 p.m. in the Pine Rest Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Pine Rest Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
