Misty Lynn Handcock Brown, 56, of Foley, died of heart failure Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A member of the Creek Indian Nation, Brown was born in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Jan. 3, 1958 and spent her formative years in the Tulsa, Okla. area. She came to Baldwin County in 2007, where she and her longtime partner, David McCarthy, had owned and operated Best Appliance Repairs since 2009.
While McCarthy and other employees made the actual visits to homes and businesses needing repairs, it was Brown who customers usually first encountered, as she was the one who answered telephone calls and arranged the scheduled appointments.
McCarthy said customers have often commented on how “fun and friendly” she was over the phone. Though she was dedicated to providing great service and was business-minded, she would also take time to get to know customers personally.
“She would become a part of their world in a five-minute conversation,” McCarthy said. “She enjoyed getting to know them in that way.”
Brown was devoted to her two small dogs, Samson and Gizmo. When not working, she enjoyed dining and listening to live music, as well as watching movies and television, reading and solving puzzles.
Other survivors include daughters, Amy Allen and Jayme Dee Brown; a granddaughter, Abby Allen; sisters, Toni Winburn and Jackie Jameson; a brother, Nelson Handcock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at Moore Funeral Home in Tulsa, with visitation scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
