The Mobile Arts Council (MAC) celebrated local creativity and community support with its 2025 Members’ Show during Members Appreciation Night on August 8 at the Gallery @ Room 1927.

More than 1,000 visitors attended the evening of art, music and celebration, honoring the talents of MAC members according to a news release.

Artist and educator Kevin King of King’s Canvas in Montgomery juried this year’s exhibition and selected the following award recipients:

Best in Show: Christopher R. Murray for "The Decadence of Empire"

2nd Place: Jenyes for "Golden Hour"

3rd Place: Laura Ledbetter for "Shipwreck"

Members’ Choice: Heather A. Mitchell for "Plot Twist"

Dempsey & Litchfield Award: Janet Hinton for "Deer River at Theodore Port"

Honorable Mentions: Micah Mermilliod for "Val and Evan", Laurie Schaerer for "Cedar Waxwing"

The exhibition remains on view through the end of August, offering the public a chance to experience these award-winning works in person.

The evening featured music from the legendary Excelsior Band 1883 and a spirited second line down Joachim Street. MAC also thanked Greer’s St. Louis Market for providing refreshments and Dempsey & Litchfield for sponsoring the exhibition and cash awards.

“Once again, Mobile has proven its love for the arts — and MAC is grateful for every member, guest, vendor, and patron who makes celebrations like this possible,” the council said in the release.

Looking ahead, MAC will present two new exhibitions in September at the Gallery @ Room 1927.

"Lunch Lines" by Anne Brookes captures nearly six years of downtown observations during the artist’s lunch breaks MAC said in the release. Brookes explored the city streets with a sketchbook, noting subtle changes and the shifting energy of familiar scenes. The series offers visitors a glimpse into her personal practice of reflection and observation.

"The Edge of Abundance" by Janie Johnson and Kathy Martin explores the richness of the natural world and the creative imagination according to MAC. Martin, an avid kayaker, draws inspiration from the wildlife and plants she encounters along Fowl River, while Johnson’s works complement the themes of abundance and creativity. Together, the exhibition invites viewers to consider the many ways abundance shapes life and art.

The official opening reception will take place during LoDa ArtWalk on Friday, Sept. 12, from 6-9 p.m. Visitors can meet the artists and enjoy both exhibitions, which will remain on view through the end of September. Admission is free and open to the public.
