Mobile man arrested for fast food chain robberies

FOLEY, Ala. - Jason D. Cole, 41, of Mobile, was arrested and charged by the Foley Police Department Monday with two counts of robbery for incidents at the Wendy's and Taco Bell restaurants in Foley.

A press release from the Foley Police Department states a man walked into Wendy's at around 4:30 p.m. Monday and handed the cashier a note requesting money and indicating he had a weapon. The press release states the cashier handed the man the money, and when he left, witnesses noticed the man drive a vehicle into the Tanger Outlet area, where police took him into custody.

"He walked into Wendy's, handed them a note and did not say anything. The cash register gave him the money and he walked out," Lt. David White, of the Foley PD, said. "A witness saw him go to Tanger Outlet and told police."

The press release states a man walked into Taco Bell on July 2 at around 2:15 p.m. and handed a note to the cashier, but the cashier could not read the handwriting. The press release states the cashier told police the note requested money from the cash register and indicated the man had a gun. The press release states the cashier asked for a manager to come over, but the man grabbed the note and left the restaurant.

"The one at Taco Bell, he did the same thing but the cashier couldn't read the handwriting," White said. "He got frustrated and grabbed the note and left the store."

Cole was charged with two counts of robbery by the Foley PD, one for his alleged attempt at Taco Bell July 2 and one for the alleged incident Monday at Wendy's.

"According to the statute, you don't have to actually get the money for it to be robbery," White said when explaining why the incident at Taco Bell is still considered a robbery. "He attempted, which makes it a robbery."

The press release states the Foley PD worked with the Robertsdale Police Department during the investigations, as there were two similar robberies in Robertsdale. The press release states video surveillance tapes show Cole allegedly at the scene of one of the robberies wearing similar clothing to what he wore during the alleged robberies in Foley. The Robertsdale PD have charged Cole with two counts of robbery.

"I believe those Robertsdale incidents happened before our July 2 incident," White said. "We had been talking with them about our robberies and had been working with them to try and figure out who it was."

The bail had yet to be set as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, White said.
