SPANISH FORT, Alabama — A Mobile man is being charged with attempted murder, along with a string of other charges, after police say he led them on a high-speed chase Sunday on Alabama 225.

He was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections facility on July 26, charged with receiving stolen property, first degree, resisting arrest and misdemeanor attempting to elude. He was released on a $7,500 bond July 31.
At approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to calls for assistance from the Spanish Fort Police Department in pursuit of a stolen vehicle traveling north on Alabama 225.
Deputies set up spike strips in the Bromley community and the fleeing vehicle struck the strips, however the vehicle continued north on the vehicles flattened front tires, according to a release issued Monday by the BCSO investigations command.
According to the release, the driver of the stolen vehicle ran oncoming traffic off the roadway in his attempt to escape capture.
“As he approached County Road 138 he intentionally changed lanes and struck an oncoming sheriff deputies vehicle, veered off the first sheriff’s vehicle and struck and second sheriff’s vehicle,” according to the release.
The suspect was rescued and taken into custody by responding deputies from the stolen vehicle as it caught fire immediately after the accident.
One deputy was transported to Thomas Hospital for precautionary reasons and was treated and released. The second deputy was treated at the scene by responding med units but was not transported.
The suspect, identified as Ward, was transported by air to the USA Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released and taken to the Baldwin County Corrections Center where he was charged with attempted murder, assault second degree, theft of property first degree and felony attempting to elude.
