MOBILE, Alabama – A Loxley man was arrested in Mobile on burglary charges over the weekend after police were able to track the victim’s stolen cell phone to a nearby convenience store.

Ashley Rainn, public information officer with the Mobile Police Department, said the burglary was reported in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22 in the Blue Heron Ridge area of Mobile.

The victim heard a noise, got up and walked in on a man in his kitchen, Rainn said. The man fled the scene taking with him a number of items, including the victim’s cell phone.

“The victim was able to give detectives a good description of the suspect,” Rainn said. Detectives were also able to use an App called “Find my iPhone,” which led them to a nearby Circle K.

There they arrested Corey Arthur Blackmon, 26, charging him with burglary, second degree; possession of burglary tools and fraudulent use of a credit card. Rainn said there was no address listed for the suspect, only that his birthplace is Fairhope.

He is currently in jail on $7,000 bond, Rainn said. A court date has been set for June 26.

Rainn could also not confirm if there have been other burglaries in the area saying only that there is an ongoing investigation in the case and any additional charges would be the result of the investigation.

A check of the Baldwin County Corrections Department website revealed, however, that Corey Arthur Blackmon, whose address is listed as County Road 64 in Loxley, has an extensive record dating back to 2010.

He was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit in March of 2010, released on a $500 bond. He was also arrested in March of 2012 on unlawful breaking and entering and possession of a controlled substance charges, later released with no bond amount given.

He has also been arrested four times on probation violations with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, including three in 2011. The latest arrest on probation violation charges was in April. He was again released on a $500 bond.
