SPANISH FORT, Ala.—A guided boat tour of the western side of the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta highlighted by activity in the Mobile River and along the banks of the busy port of Mobile is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 by Blakeley State Park. The tour is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
State docks, ship construction and repairs, and busy shipping activity from north of Satsuma down to Mobile Bay are among highlights of the three-hour boat tour aboard the 50-passenger Delta Explorer.
The tour leaves from the Blakeley Park dock, covers miles of delta waterfront, turns into Bayou Canot to the site of the Amtrak derailment, largest in Amtrak history; and past the traditional site of the sinking of the Clotilde, the last known slave ship to the Gulf Coast.
Seating can be reserved by paying in advance with major credit cards. Tickets cost $30 for adults, $15 for children 6-12, and children 4 to 6 get in free. Call 626-5581 to order.
The docks and other tours aboard the Delta Explorer are also available by charter to groups or businesses meeting a minimum number of passengers.
