Moore charged with 5 burglaries

DAPHNE — A Daphne man has been charged with four additional counts of burglary after having been arrested on one count in August, Daphne police reported.

Calvin Moore, 49, was arrested on Aug. 4 in connection with a restaurant burglary.

Since then, he has served time at the Baldwin County Corrections Center on third-degree burglary. He now faces four additional charges in connection with similar crimes at undisclosed businesses.

“He was caught on videotape in the restaurant while he was burglarizing it,” police Lt. Jud Beedy said of the first offense. “Prior to that, we think he’s committed four other burglaries.”

Cpl. Detective Jason Vannoy and Detective Joe Sullivan, aided by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, have matched Moore’s DNA to four burglaries committed during June and July, Beedy said.

“He (Moore) left DNA samples at the scene of the crime,” he said. “We found some blood where he had been cut where he broke a window.”

“Sometime during the commission of the crime he injured himself,” he said. “What he did in all of them was busted out a window to the business and went into the business until he found the petty cash, and then he stole the petty cash.”

The additional arrest warrants were served on Thursday, Beedy said.

Each offense is a Class C felony.

“The imprisonment is not more than 10 years and not less than one year and one day,” Beedy said of each charge, “and the fines are not more than $15,000.”

“So 50 years and $75,000,” are the maximum penalties, collectively, Beedy said.
