BAY MINETTE — Sunday, Aug. 7, is National Purple Heart Day, and the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will share their celebration with the residents of the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.

According to Joe Birindelli, the Commander of Chapter 2206 of the MOPH, the members of the local chapter will honor the Veterans’ Home residents at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, in the Bay Minette facility. The residents and staff of the home will be presented a grant from the MOPH Service Foundation for the service, welfare and rehabilitation of the facility. The MOPH chapter will also present Purple Heart pins to those residents who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds received in combat during our nation’s wars.

The public is invited to attend this program. Those veterans living in Baldwin and Mobile counties who have received the Purple Heart are encouraged to attend this salute to our wounded service men and women. You do not have to be a member of MOPH to attend.

For more information, contact Birindelli at 251-928-3292.
