Robert and Sondra (Scott) Morris of Fairhope celebrated their 50thwedding anniversary Friday, November 5. In 1960 the couple was married at Harbison Chapel on the campus of Grove City College in Grove City, Penn., where both had attended college. They honeymooned in the Great Lakes area, often recounting the story of a sudden snow storm that turned their romantic getaway into a perilous adventure.

Robert forged his career in metallurgical engineering, which moved the family to various locations over the years including Toledo, Ohio; Birmingham, Ala.; New Orleans, La., Chicago, Ill; and a three-year project in central Mexico. However, it was the couple’s love of the time they spent in Birmingham that prompted a return to Alabama in 2001 after Robert’s retirement.

The Morris’ are the proud parents of three adult children: Kimberly (Morris) McCuiston

of Foley; Kristen (Morris) Bowen of New Egypt, N.J.; and Robert Morris of

Canton, Ga. They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

For the 50th anniversary celebration, children and grandchildren gathered in Fairhope for a reunion weekend. Festivities included a special anniversary dinner hosted at Jesse’s Restaurant in Magnolia Springs and a family portrait by local photographer Mark Sives on the beach in Gulf Shores.
