DAPHNE, Ala. – The No. 2 Daphne Trojans shut down the Davidson offense and riddled the Warrior defense for a 47-14 Friday-night victory at Daphne High in the Class 6A semifinals.

The Trojans (14-0) advance to face No. 1 ranked, defending champion Hoover (14-0) for the state title Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Russ Mosley threw 16 times for nine completions and an interception against No. 4 Davidson (12-2) in what would be the final home game for the Trojans' quarterback and his fellow seniors at Daphne's Jubilee Stadium. Five of his tosses were for touchdowns as he racked up 228 yards passing.

"It's a great way to go out of here," Mosley said about turning the lights out on the home field and advancing to the championship. "Great feeling. This is what we worked for all year. Davidson's a great team. Great coach, Fred Riley, over there. They're a class act. A team we have great respect for. They had a great year.

"But it's a great feeling over on the Daphne side. I really have to thank my offensive line tonight for doing such a great job. They gave me time to put it up and with great receivers like we have, you know, they do the rest. And our defense tonight. Got to give credit to them. They're just amazing to watch out there. It's a great feeling for us right now. But it's not over yet. We're going to be celebrating this one tonight. But we've got one more to go. We're going to go back to work and get ready for the next one. That's the one we want."

The Daphne defense was all over Davidson’s offensive standouts Kendyl Williamson and Terrance Timmons. The Trojan defenders put up the first Daphne score off a Torrean McGaster interception of Williamson that was run back for a 55-yard TD on the third play of the Warriors' opening drive. The Daphne D kept the pressure up all night as Zach Houston picked off a pass in the fourth quarter. The Trojans held the Warriors attack to 35 yards rushing in the first half and 162 total for the game.

After McGaster's score, the Daphne offense added 24 points, including extra point kicks and field goals of 35 and 38 yards by Brandon Roberts for a 33-0 lead at the half.

DHS coach Glenn Vickery said his defense had one of their best nights all year.

“Any time you keep a Davidson offense out of the end zone for a half, you know you must be doing something right,” Vickery said. “Give credit to our defense, they played their hearts out out on every play. I'm really proud of all the kids tonight. All phases of the game have been working well for us and tonight they beat a great football team in Davidson. This is a night they will never forget. We're happy tonight for the players, the coaches, the whole community. And we’re very proud to have a chance to play for a state championship.”

Israel Lamprakes caught two of Mosley’s five touchdown passes, both in the second half. One from 10 yards and another from 29 yards out. In the first half Justin Jackson caught one good for 79 yards, Tyrell Holloway scored on a 30-yarder and T.J. Yeldon one from the Davidson nine.

The return engagement with Hoover for the state crown has been five years in the making. Daphne's last trip to the finals was 2005 when the Buccaneers pummeled DHS 56-14. Daphne won it's first and only 6A state title 48-21 over Hoover in 2001 between losses to the Bucs in 2000 and 2003. Hoover is 3-1 against the Trojans in the state finals series.
