FOLEY, Ala. — An independent filmmaker who spoke to area chambers of commerce recently could be looking at “Lower Alabama” - Baldwin County - as a site for a production office.
“We’re working on it,” said Jeff Rouzie, director of Economic Development for the City of Foley, this week.
Tonya S. Holly, who has 17 films to her credit, purchased Cypress Moon Studios, formerly known as Muscle Shoals Sound, in Florence, Ala. The Alabama native founded the Alabama Filmmakers Association in 1991.
“She was here to tell us how we — our area — could entice the movie industry,” Rouzie said of Holly’s address to the chambers.
According to the Cypress Moon Productions Inc. Web site, Holly’s film credits include “Toy Soldiers” with Louis Gossett Jr. and Sean Astin and the Oscar-winning “Blue Sky” starring Jessica Lange and Tommy Lee Jones.
The Web site also notes that Holly has worked with CBS, HBO, FOX, NBC, Universal, Morgan Creek and Buena Vista, “and many other independent productions.”
Holly opened Gem-Star talent agency in 1989 to develop local talent in Northwest Alabama, according to the Cypress Moon Web site.
Attempts on Tuesday to speak to someone at Cypress Moon Productions concerning plans to open an office in the Foley area proved unsuccessful.
