Mr. John Francis Ellis Sr. (Frank), former Orange Beach mayor, born July 12, 1929, 85 years of age, of Foley, Ala., died Thursday, May 14, 2015 in South Baldwin Hospital.

A private graveside memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at Orange Beach Presbyterian Church in their Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ellen Ellis; and his brother, Palmer G. Ellis along with his stepson, Gene Hardee.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Ellis; sons, John F. Ellis Jr., David (Candace) Ellis; daughters, Angela (Hank) Gwaltney, Margaret (Rhett) Owens; stepdaughters, Lynn Lampley and Kim Scharmen; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The service was officiated by Alan McBride.

Most of Frank’s working career was spent in retail and wholesale furniture business. He also served in various civic groups and as Opp city councilman and later on he was elected as mayor of Orange Beach.

He and his wife, Terry, upon retirement, enjoyed traveling with a group of their closest friends.
