Vocabulary words in Mrs. Judy Humphrey’s Art Room at Fairhope Elementary School this week include warp, weft, loom, alternate, and pattern. Can you guess what we are doing? Maybe one more word would help: weave. In preparation for a collage project inspired by African American artist, Faith Ringgold, the students are learning to weave strips of paper in an A/B pattern. This results in a checkerboard pattern…another vocabulary word! Weaving involves folding, tracing a straight line, and cutting a drawn line….all skills expected of Lower Elementary age children.
