GULF SHORES, Ala. — No matter what type of music you like, Eric Marrero will probably play it when he entertains from the backyard portico at the Erie Meyer Civic Center, 1930 W. Second St. in Gulf Shores.
Continuing the free concert series, Gulf Shores Outdoors and In 2009, the multi-talented Marrero will appear Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m.
For seating comfort on the lawn outside the Civic Center, bring a chair or mat.
Originally from Mobile, Marrero also lived in Tampa, Fla., where he received a degree in music from Tampa University, taught music in the Tampa School System and was a member of the United States Air Force Band.
Marrero plays guitar, saxophone, trumpet, keyboard and electric bass. He sings many songs in the voice of the artist who is most commonly associated with the tune.
After his hitch in the Air Force Band, Marrero opened with Frank Menendez and the Count Four band on a concert tour starring jazz great, Maynard Ferguson.
He has performed with such stars as Shelby Lynn, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Reba McEntire, Marie Osmond and Mel Tillis, and appeared with songwriter/performer/creative genius Jerry Powell.
Most of Marrero’s solo performances are at private functions but he also performs with the Grand Band, again at mostly private venues.
When not appearing solo, Marrero is one of a trio of wild, zany, nutty entertainers known as the “Cleverlys.” They perform throughout the Southeast for various corporate groups as an after-dinner comedic variety act that includes music, magic and ventriloquism.
Marrero also performs as a duo with his wife, Karin.
His musical style is eclectic and spans from classical to jazz, to pop and beyond. He has recorded several CDs featuring his skills on classical guitar and comedic presentation.
This show promises something for everyone when you attend another entertaining evening presented by the city of Gulf Shores.
All outdoor shows move indoors if the weather refuses to cooperate.
