FOLEY, Ala. — Music and a Movie in the Park, hosted by the Foley Convention and Visitors Bureau, will kick-off this Thursday with a 1950s themed evening.
Poodle skirts, twist contests and a movie featuring a particular blonde bombshell will highlight the first night in the series. The Red Hat Society will be in attendance with their purple poodle skirts and there will also be a hula-hoop contest. Music will be provided by Jim and John and they play a variety of oldies and popular music. Awards will be given for best costume and best picnic. The evening is sponsored by Baldwin EMC and will be emceed by Clyde Abrams and Karen Moore of Baldwin EMC.
Music and a Movie in the Park was the creation of Kathy Danielson, executive director of the Foley Convention and Visitor Bureau.
“No other community was doing this at the time,” said Danielson. “Now other cities have followed.”
Danielson said that the event seems to double in size every year.
“It helps promote the city of Foley to residents and visitors,” said Karen Moore, vice president of member services and public relations for Baldwin EMC.
The Spring entertainment series is in its third year, and offers the community a night of family entertainment. Many viewers bring blankets, lawn chairs and pack dinners, but concessions will be available according to Danielson.
Every Thursday, from April 24 to June 12, there will be music and a movie in Heritage Park. Music and activities will start at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk. Admission is free.
Sponsors for the event are: Baldwin EMC, Hotel Magnolia, Star Key Storage, Riviera Utilities, Sunny 105.7, WHEP 1310 and Foley Parks and Recreation Department.
