Mrs. Sullivan’s second-grade class at Central Christian School celebrated Dr. Seuss’s 100th birthday by having green eggs and ham, making “Dr. Seuss” crafts, and reading “Dr. Seuss” books . The class wrapped up their celebration with a trip to the Robertsdale library for a “Dr. Seuss” party. While at the library, the second-graders wrote their own story with the help of Sheila Booth-Alberstadt, author of the “Maggie McNair” children’s books.
In honor of leap year, Mrs. Turner’s 5th grade class at CCS “leaped” through their day on March 29th. They walked into class backwards twenty-nine steps, then “leaped” to the end of their usual school day by beginning the day with science class. Fifth grade then took twenty-nine “leaps” outside for an ice cream party.
Mrs. Turner’s fifth-graders have not only been studying leap year, but they have also been learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion. Her class designed, built, and raced balloon cars in order to prove Newton’s Third Law of Motion. McKenzie McLeod’s racer came in first place; Makayla Arthur finished second place, and Zach Parker’s car placed third. Zach Parker’s racer was voted Best Design; Micah Fountain won in the Most Unusual Design category, and Reece Cooper’s racer was chosen as the Best Paint Job. McKenzie McLeod also placed first in the distance competition.
