In honor of National Library Week, April 9-15, the Foley Public Library is hosting several events throughout the month of April to stimulate the local community and bring about awareness of the library. Not only will there be a Fine Free Week during National Library Week, but listed below are other special events for the month.
“Bama Book Madness” started as an online book title contest on March 23. It will continue into April and will include four regular rounds of voting, two semifinal rounds and a final round will start April 10. Vote online via the library’s Facebook page. Voting in the final round can be done in person at the library April 10-12, or online. A prize basket will be awarded to one patron who votes at the library during the final round.
Author Kathie Farnell will be doing a book reading from her latest publication, Duck and Cover, on Wednesday, April 19, at 2 p.m. Kathie’s book is a wry, laconic memoir based on her perspective as a smart-mouthed, unreasonably optimistic white girl growing up in Cloverdale, a genteel and neatly landscaped neighborhood of Montgomery, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Her presentation will occur in the upstairs meeting room and she will have books to sell as well.
The library will host a Confederate Memorial Day Display in the upstairs meeting room Friday, April 21, 1-4:45 p.m. and Saturday, April 22, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This display is free to view by the public and is displayed in honor of Confederate Memorial Day on Monday, April 24.
On Saturday, April 29, the Foley Public Library will host its first ever Forward City Con – a mini comic/anime/gaming convention. This event will occur from 10 am-4 pm at the library. It will include panel discussions, a cosplay competition and local vendors. This convention is free to the public. For more information on cosplay rules and a schedule for the day, please visit the library’s website at FoleyLibrary.org or call Melanie Schnieders at 251-943-1031.
