National Weather Service projects soggy autumn

FOLEY, Ala. — According to the National Weather Service, an already saturated South Baldwin County could be in for even more rain this fall and winter.

“We’re looking at a strengthening El Nino,” said NWS Lead Forecaster John Purdy during Wednesday’s Baldwin Emergency Management Agency Town Hall Meeting at Foley Public Library.

He explained that El Nino is an oscillation of the ocean-atmosphere system in the Pacific, which would cause more heavy rain in South Baldwin.

“There is a 60-percent likelihood,”Purdy said.

With that, Baldwin EMA Director and other first responders pointed out that this is one reason residents should be prepared for emergencies. One way is to sign up for reverse 911 messages for your cell phone by visiting Baldwin911.org. For more information about pre    paredness, find the Baldwin EMA on Facebook.
