BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Several students represented the North Baldwin Center for Technology at the Alabama South District Competition for SkillsUSA and the State Leadership Conference.
NBTech students in construction science and graphic design took part in the SkillsUSA competition at Reid State Community College in Evergreen. Health Science Academy students competed at the State Leadership Conference in Montgomery.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry leaders working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel by providing educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms.
Scott Larson is the Construction Science Academy teacher at NBTech. Those entering the competition in this category were Austin Mulligan, District officer; DiAngela Pope and Trey Bryant, first place in Chapter Display; Cody Wilson, Carpentry and Dalton Minchew, Job Skill Demonstration.
Chris McClantoc is the instructor for graphic design. Students competing in this category included Courtney Steadham, second place, state pin design; and Danie Thomaston, first place, state T-shirt design. Both of these designs now move to the state level to be judged.
Health Science Academy, taught by Haley Stuart, entered the competitions in the 2016 State Leadership Conference held in Montgomery. Those representing NBTech were Mykela Armstrong, Savannah Castrillo, Jonetta Stoudmire, Madison Stewart, Samantha Bailey and Amanda McDonald.
The students participated in medical math, biomedical laboratory science, and nursing assisting. Savannah Castrillo placed sixth in biomedical laboratory science.
