The $4.7 million water expansion project conducted by North Baldwin Utilities in conjunction with the Baldwin County Commission is under way to connect North Baldwin households to a new water system.
The expansion project, financed by a Community Development Block Grant provided by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, provided project funds.
The grant allows for tapping fees and connection fees to be waived for all qualified households. The project also includes a 200,000-gallon water tank and approximately 57 miles of new water line to be laid.
Specific areas in Baldwin County that will be affected include Phillipsville, Little River, Blacksher, and the County Road 96 area between Highway 59 and County Road 47.
The water expansion project began the week of Sept. 24 in the Phillipsville area. The Little River and Blacksher areas are to follow.
During the expansion, an NBU representative will be in the designated areas to make sure appropriate steps have been taken by each household before construction begins.
A Little River community meeting will be held Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Tate Creek Baptist Church to discuss the expansion project. NBU representatives will be present to answer questions and take comments.
For more information, contact NBU between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at (251) 580-1626 or by e-mail at info@northbaldwinutilities.com.
