NBU wastewater residential rates increase May 1

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — North Baldwin residential customers will experience an increase in their North Baldwin Utilities wastewater service rate, effective May 1.

The increase, said NBU General Manager Jason Padgett, is attributed to the increasing costs of providing wastewater services for all customers. North Baldwin Utilities provides water, wastewater and natural gas services in the greater North Baldwin community.

“NBU regrets the necessity for this rate adjustment and will continue to manage our operations so as to enhance efficiency,” Padgett said. “In our efforts to assure the fiscal integrity of each of our utility systems, we are pleased to be able to maintain our current rates in all but the wastewater system.”

The monthly minimum wastewater bill for residential customers will be $13 for up to 3,000 gallons used with an additional $3.50 for each 1,000 gallons used beyond the minimum.

A typical residential customer who uses 5,000 gallons of water per month, Padgett said, will see a $20 bill. The flat sewer rate will be $31 per month.

Commercial, food service and industrial customer rate minimums will be $17 monthly for up to 2,000 gallons used with a $4.50 charge for each 1,000 gallons used.
