Neighors celebrate togetherness

FOLEY, Ala. — It was party central Saturday morning on Gryder Street in south Foley, as neighors held a Kids Party to celebrate the end of the school year.

The two-hour event included face painting, bubbles, a bicycle parade, sidewalk chalk drawing and a hot dog roast. According to Neighborhood Home Ownership President Dave Parks, one activity was the real attraction.

“Mainly just a lot of sitting around, talking,” he said at the party.

The event drew 10 familes for a total of 32 people in the 105-home subdivision.

“We had a really good turn-out,” attendee Terry Savell said at the event.

“I think these kids enjoyed this so much,” Parks added.

This is not the first event held in the neighorhood. But the first one in a while.

“It’s been a few years,” Savell said.

The neighorhood, part of the Greystone Subdivision, was established approximately 11 years ago.

“It’s always been family-oriented,” said Evelyn Wright, an original resident.

She explained that such activities were held shortly afterward, but had waned in the last few years.

Saturday’s party can be credited to the neighborhood’s current home owners association.

“They hold a meeting once a year,” Wright said.

With residents proclaming Saturday’s party a success, they intend to maintain its festive momentum by holding another event in the fall, such as a neighborhood garage sale or Halloween hayride.

It seems these neighbors have embraced the definition of community.
