Barbara Nelson, born Oct. 29, 1932, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 in Hughes Springs, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Horace Nelson.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Prior to the sickness that incapacitated her during her later years she was active in her churches, St. Joseph’s parish in Richardson, Texas, and Our Lady of the Gulf in Gulf Shores, and then attended First Baptist Church Hughes Springs in recent years. She served as a volunteer at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge in Gulf Shores along with other community service organizations.
Survivors include three sons, Gene (Rebecca) Nelson of Houston, Rick (Amy) Nelson of Hughes Springs, Texas, and David (Kathleen) Nelson of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter Pam (Bill) Stephens of Lewisville, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Jeff (Molly), Clayton, Brett, Sarah (Keith), Heather, Caitlin, Andrew, Hannah, Logan, Peyton, and Joshua.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 12 at Reeder-David Funeral Home in Hughes Springs, Texas.
