Homer L. Nelson, 86, of Duncanville, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at DCH Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by spouses Mary Smith Hall Nelson and Catherine Melton Nelson, his parents, Vaniel Homer and Patty Arsnon Gray Nelson; and a sister, Christine Nelson Jones.
Surivors include three daughters, Deroma (Billy) Hewett, Barbara (Allen) Langford and Becky Jones; three sons, Skipper (Cookie) Nelson, Doug (Sue) Nelson and Kenny (Karen) Nelson; a brother, Rayburn (Nancy) nelson; 17 grandchildren and Numerous great-granchildren.
Visitation begins at noon at Magnolia Chapel South with graveside funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 at Bethabbara Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Charles Spence Brother Jerry Peebles and Brother William Kimbrell officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Sandy Foek Hunting Club, members of Oyster Bay Baptist Church, members of Masonic Lodge OES 142 Foley Chapter, employees of BF Goodrich, friends and neighbors of Gilgal Baptist Church and members of Indian Mounds Baptist Church.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Indian Mounds Baptist Church Building Fund, 40616 Highway 69 S., Moundville, AL 35474.
