MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. - Children will have a chance to get a glimpse of the new Magnolia Springs Public Library on Saturday with a day filled with stories, crafts and face painting.
The children's event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon, and pictures with Tigger will be offered.
"We are having the program for 4-9 year olds. We do have older kids who are assisting, and we are so fortunate to have two other librarians now retired from the school system," Alida Given, library director, stated. "I am going to read some delightful picture books by Mo Willems, and surely, kids will hear them and say, "'Mo' mo' stories!'"
The library is located at 12440 Magnolia Ave. Suite 600.
"They can make a frame for this in the craft area. Face painting will be offered as well," Given stated. "Even though we don't open until mid October, we thought this would be a grand way for parents and their children to learn where their library is. and of course, libraries are free. We will plan a larger summer program next year as we will be up and running quite well by then."
The event is for children 4-9 years old, and parents of children who wish to attend the event are asked to pre-register by calling (251) 965-2305 or emailing magnoliaspringslibrary@gmail.com.
"When parents, preregister their children, they will learn of one additional fun event as well," Given said. "Only a few children have preregistered, but we have heard of others planning to come."
The library is scheduled to open the week of Oct. 17, which is the national Friends of the Library Week. The library will include books, up-to-date computers and wireless internet. It also will be connected to the county system so residents and patrons can receive books that the library does not immediately have.
"We have been very hopeful about a library for this area ever since our town became incorporated," Alida Given, library director, stated.
