The New Member Artists Exhibit reception at the Orange Beach Art Center seemed to be a tremendous success, as seen by the number of people who turned out for this event on such a cold evening. Guests reveled in the beautiiful sunset on the bay behind the art center. Wanda Price, Art Center Director for the City of Orange Beach, greeted visitors and prepared the snacks and wine for guests during the evening.

Many interesting visitors attended this event and all were friendly and receptive. In attendance was a R.V. travel group from Ontario, Canada who said they have been visiting here for almost 14 years. They even came down last year during our oil spill because, "it's still a gorgeous area," according to Sandra Brown. She was a bubbly, lady who continued to tell that their R.V. group continues to grow each year, making it well worth the drive. They stay with us for the entire month of November each year and always look forward to it.

Also in attendance, were Helen and Bob Trammell. Helen refers to her husband as a,"miracle man" because he has survived many, one-week chemo treatments after moving to Fairhope, where they currently reside. They named their place, "Resurrection Farm" in August of 2008, upon relocating to the area.

The glass art demos were done by The Hot Shop's instructor, Sam Corman—the Center's resident artist, and his assistant and student, Jay Thrash, from the University of West Florida. They put on amazing displays through out the evening. Even in the cold temperatures, many guest congregated outside to watch as they demonstrated their talents in working with hot glass.

They offer classes and demonstration Tuesday through Saturday. Reservations are suggested. The shop's phone number is 981-2787 and the web site is orangebeachartcenter.com. Glass classes start at $25 and that includes making a small piece such an ornament. It's free to observe.

Other guests included Steve Dark, Art Teacher at Faulkner and a member artist at the Center.

Rick and Rhoda McCoy, of Fairhope, purchased a Christmas tree made from driftwood for their local beach house here on the Island. The piece was hand made by artist, Opal Young, near Fort Morgan.
