New Orleans poet is crossing Over the Transom

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Over The Transom Books in Fairhope will host a reading by poet Gina Ferrara of New Orleans on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m., at the bookstore located at 9 N. Church St. Admission is free.

Ferrara received her master of fine arts in creative writing from the University of New Orleans. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals across the country including, Poetry East, The Tulane Review, Callaloo and The Coe Review.

Her poems have been anthologized in Hurricane Blues: How Katrina and Rita Ravaged a Nation and From a Bend in the River.

Her work in poetry has won several awards, including The Briar Cliff Poetry Prize and The Second Wind Poetry Prize.

She was appointed to the Louisiana Division of the Arts State Artists’ Roster, and has received several grants from the Louisiana Division of the Arts.

She is the author of two collections of poetry, About a Pineapple, published by Simpatico Press and The Size of Sparrows, published by Finishing Line Press.

In 2007, she was awarded a grant for her work in poetry by the Elizabeth George Foundation.

As a founding member of the Women’s Poetry Conspiracy, Ferrara created a program/reading series between female poets and the New Orleans Public Library.

She reads frequently in New Orleans where she teaches creative writing and lives with her husband.

She has poems forthcoming in  The Cherry Orchard Review and in YAWP.

Over The Transom Books shares space with Dr. Music Records. They are directly across the street from Mateer’s restaurant.
