New Summerdale chief hopes to add to police department

SUMMERDALE, Ala. - New Summerdale Police Chief Frankie "Eddie" Ingram is looking into raising the staff size for the Summerdale Police Department.

The current police staff includes five officers, counting Ingram. When former police chief Dwain Riebeling was terminated from employment in March, so was Cpl. Quentin Bettner, leaving two vacancies in the department.

Ingram filled one, and said he plans to fill the other position, bringing the department size to six.

However, he hopes the additions do not stop there.

A grant which would allow the department to add another officer and expand to seven, Ingram said

"I honestly think it could be as big as 15-20 officers if this economy kicks back in," he said, noting it would take a few years.
