Next cruise-in set for Oct. 11

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Got a love for old-fashioned hot rods?

The Eastern Shore Cruisers will have a cruise-in from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Eastern Shore Centre.

The event will take place in the Panera Bread parking lot—right next to Best Buy— where DJ Daddy O will provide oldies musical entertainment for guests.

Door prizes, a 50-50 drawing to benefit the USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital and 30 kids’-choice awards will round out the evening, Fred Minke, organizer, said.

“We had 120 vehicles at the August cruise-(in) and 100 at the September cruise-in,” he said. “We are always hoping for as many as we can hold.”

The cruise-in has been held the second Saturday in each month since March and will return one last time this year—Nov. 8—for the grand finale  Toys for Tots cruise-in. Toys will be collected for its fifth annual Toys for Tots cruise-in.

Goodie bags will be provided to the first 100 people who donate a toy, Minke said.

“It is a fun time for all,” Minke said. “Looking at the cars helps to remind people of old cars that family members or friends used to have and reminds them of good times.”

The U.S. Marine Corp at the Toys for Tots event will bring a Humvee to fill with toys. Last year the Humvee was filled and a pickup truck had to hold the rest of the toys.

“This year I would like to do even better,” Minke said.

Admission to cruise-in events is free.

The Eastern Shore Centre is located at 30500 Alabama Highway 181 in Spanish Fort.
