Jack Nichols, 85, a native of Kankakee, Ill., and a resident of Daphne, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette.

He retired from Sea Land in 1989 as director of Engineering Services. He was a member and past president of the Society of Marine Port Engineers, New York; a life member of Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers; a member American Society Naval Engineers and Institute of Marine Engineers, London; past president and member of the Lake Forest Golf; past member of the Eastern Shore retirement Committee; past president and member of Baldwin SeniorTravelers; past member of the Thomas Medical Center, Daphne Community Advisory Board; past member of Christ the King Parish Council Building & Grounds Commission; past member of Christ the King Social Concerns Committee; past member and officer of “Friends of the Daphne Public Library; past volunteer “VITA,” Meals on Wheels, Crisis Help Line and AARP 55 Alive Driving Program.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ann G. Nichols; three children, Jack (Laurie) Nichols, Mary Ann (Bob) Barca and Gina (Brian) Collins; six grandchildren, David, Jeanna, Brian, Bob, Greg (Nancy) and Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Averi.

Visitation begins at 11:30 a.m. with a memorial Mass at noon Saturday, May 2 at Christ the King Church, Daphne.
