BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Montgomery woman’s four-day, five-state ordeal of sexual and physical abuse ended Dec. 11 at a Loxley truck stop when she managed to shuck a nylon rope from her neck and “scream and lay on the horn,” alerting two nearby female truck drivers, according to preliminary hearing testimony Thursday.

Following the lengthy hearing, District Judge Jody Bishop sent the case to the Baldwin County grand jury, which will review first-degree kidnapping charges against Roy Scott Stillwell, 47, of Missouri, who remains incarcerated on bail set at $2 million.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s investigator Daniel Stillman testified Loxley police summoned him to a Loxley truck stop to assist in an investigation after the female was discovered naked, bound and screaming.

Loxley police took the woman from the cab and untied a rope binding her hands and feet as she described her alleged attacker, who was inside the truck stop.

Stillwell, who was detained inside the truck stop by Loxley police while Stillman was en route, allegedly said, “What’s this all about? I can’t help it if she likes to be tied up,” Stillman told prosecutor Hallie Dixon.

Stillman presented the following scenario of the alleged abduction based on his interviews with the victim and supplemental interviews conducted by the FBI.

The alleged victim, a native of Shelby County who took up residence near a Montgomery truck stop, responded to a friendly wave from Stillwell and voluntarily entered his cab.

Stillman said the female told him she had “prostituted” in the past, but not now.”

“She said she got into the truck to talk to Stillwell. In my opinion, she approached the truck to smoke crack cocaine,” Stillman said.

Stillwell asked her to take a ride to North Carolina, then grabbed her, choked her to unconsciousness and put her in a sleeper area separated from the driving area by a curtain.

He then used a nylon rope to bind her legs and arms. Another rope encircled her neck and was attached to a handle in the sleeping area. He untied the neck rope when he was in the cab.

Stillwell allegedly cut off her clothing and raped and sodomized her “about 10 times” as he drove through Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida to make deliveries.

He also allegedly pulled her hair, punched her in the face, kicked her in the ribs and grabbed her by the hair and “beat her head against an object in the truck.”

When he was outside the cab making deliveries during the five-state trek, he secured the neck rope to prevent her escape.

On Dec. 11, Stillwell left Crestview, Fla., and stopped in Loxley. The woman was able to remove the rope from her neck and squirm to the front seat to blow the horn, alerting nearby truck drivers.

The female had marks on her neck, wrists and feet supporting her statements to lawmen about involuntary confinement. In addition to bruises, Stillman noted “older looking sores on her arms that didn’t look like bruises.”

The woman was treated and examined at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center for evidence of rape. The results have not been received by authorities, Stillman said.

During cross examination, defense attorney Jim Sweet said no evidence was presented showing any forced sexual encounter, except the victim’s statements.

Federal charges are pending, Dixon said.
