DAPHNE, Ala. — Fall 2008 will usher in Daphne High’s 20th year and, with it, the establishment of a new campus tradition. On Friday night, Sept. 5, the inaugural class of the Daphne High School Hall of Fame will be introduced in a comprehensive alumni recognition program that will honor outstanding graduates who excelled in any field during their high school careers including athletics, academics and the arts.
Former Daphne High teachers, administrators and coaches are also eligible for selection to the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2008. In addition, community members who have made significant contributions to the school may be recognized as associate members.
Nominations are being accepted for any student who graduated from Daphne High between 1990 and 1999. Selection will be based primarily on abilities and achievements demonstrated during high school though community service before and after graduation may be considered. Faculty members or community supporters from any period in the school’s history may also be nominated, and the total number of honorees to be named in 2008 will be limited to 20.
Nomination forms are available in the school office and on the Daphne High Web site at www.daphnehs.com and should be completed and mailed in by July 14.
According to Principal Don Blanchard, the decision to recognize students from all walks of campus life was a unanimous one.
The Daphne High School Hall of Fame Class of 2008 will be announced at a gala dinner to be held in Trojan Hall, the school’s new fine arts center, on Thursday evening, Sept. 4, and introduced to the community on Sept. 5 when Daphne plays Mitchell High of Memphis, Tenn., at Trojan Field.
