Posted

Chris Norman is seeking a fourth term as a council member on the Bay Minette City Council to represent District 5. During Norman’s three terms as a council member, the city created and upgraded recreational facilities and improved and enhanced public safety in the city. Listed are some of the projects that have been completed during the last 12 years: The city converted a private pool that was donated to the city into a public facility. The pool upgrade included adding a walking path and tennis courts to the property; the city constructed a water park; renovated a vacant building for use as a city owned bowling alley and skating rink; constructed a new fire station that includes firefighting and rescue training facilities; constructed a facility for horse riding and rodeos; renovated a vacant school and converted the school to a community facility; constructed sidewalks in different areas of the city; constructed a new concession stand and bathroom facilities at Halliday Park; acquired Holly Hills Country Club and converted it to a municipal golf course; upgraded the fleet of police cars and purchased equipment and vehicles for the fire department and public works department; and improved the buildings at the city hall, public library and civic center.

In District 5, a $500,000 Community Block Grant drainage project was completed and an additional $700,000 Community Block Grant for street improvement and a drainage project has been obtained and scheduled to be implemented. Additionally, several streets have been paved and upgraded. All of the construction and improvement during Norman’s three terms were financed by public funds and grants; however, the projects were completed without any financial strain on the city and city services were not affected.

Norman graduated from Baldwin County High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Alabama State University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Troy State University. Norman is a certified municipal officer and an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is currently employed as a division director with the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles. Norman is married to Donnise Jean Norman, and they have two children and one grandchild. He is a member of Trinity Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Bay Minette is a growing and vibrant city. Consequently, continued improvement in the infrastructure along with proper zoning and increased recreational activities should supplement the city’s growth. Norman will continue to collaborate with the other members of the city council and the mayor to effectively manage the affairs of Bay Minette.
