FAIRHOPE – Fairhope senior Daryl Norris was voted Alabama’s “Mr. Baseball” by the Alabama Sports Writers Association on Saturday.
Norris, a Mississippi State signee, is the first player from southwest Alabama to win the award since Daphne’s Pat White won “Mr. Baseball” in 2004.
Norris has received a string of honors since the baseball season ended. Just last week Norris was honored as the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for Alabama.
Norris finished his junior and senior years with a combined 19-5 record as a pitcher and struck out 108 batters with a 2.31 ERA his senior year. He hit .444 with 11 home runs, 65 RBIs, 13 doubles and 67 runs scored his senior year. He had 13 homers as a junior.
Norris helped lead Fairhope to the 6A semi-finals this season. The Pirates lost to eventual champion Auburn.
Spanish Fort’s Patrick McGavin, an Alabama signee, was honored by the ASWA as the 5A MVP.
