North Baldwin Young Professionals discuss upcoming Career Horizon Expo

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Young Professionals Forum in Bay Minette seems to be off to quite a start.

Sponsored by the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, the leadership group for ages 40 and under held its second meeting Thursday after launching in July. In that time, the group of approximately 25 has already tackling several community-based projects.
The most immediate of those will be helping to present the Baldwin County High School Career Horizon Expo next month.
“Seventy-five to 90 kids will go through about every 20 minutes,” North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Margo Allen said at the meeting.
The forum’s part in the expo will be for varied, with members signing up for such tasks as setting up tables and guiding students through the event.
In addition to the upcoming expo, the forum discussed the possibility of hosting a triathalon-style, obstacle course event this time next year in Stockton.
Chris Yokely, who spearheaded the idea, told the forum that he was confident in having land near Bicentennial Park dedicated to the event. But input was needed for the design of the course, as well as implementation of the project.
“We’d need help in building obstacles, getting sponsors and helping the day of the event,” he said.
Yokely said he believed there wasn’t such an event within a 30-mile radius of Bay Minette.
“We think it’ll be a fun thing,” he said, “and it would bring attention to North Baldwin County.”
Also Thursday, forum members discussed bringing back and improving upon the Belles and Beaux leadership program and working with the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education to implement its “Yes We Can” initiative.
