FOLEY, Ala. — As of next week, the North Foley Visitors Center will be no more.
City of Foley Leisure Tourism Marketing Director LaDonna Hinesley has announced that the city’s Downtown Visitors Center, located on Alabama Highway 59, will now house the marketing and visitors’ staff.
“Another way we will be greeting guests is with VisitFoley.org,” she said in an interview. “So people can get all the information they need about restaurants, hotels, events and attractions in Foley.”
Hinesley explained that the city has leased the north location from the Snook Foundation.
“When we close, we will have been open three years and three months,” she said, “and we have greeted over 24,000 people in the last three years.”
That’s visitors from all 50 states and many foreign countries, Hinesley added.
The Snook building that housed the North Foley Visitors Center has quite a bit of history.
“This was corporate headquarters of Gulf Telephone,” Hinesley said, adding that vacating the building will pave the way for its possible housing of a telephone museum in the future.
The Downtown Visitors Center is located at the intersection of Alabama Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 98, in the southwest corner of Heritage Park.
Hinesley added that next year, the Visitors Center could also begin using kiosks at Tanger Outlet and Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market.
