Allijean Addy Northcutt, born July 2, 1937 in Union, Miss., former resident of Foley and a resident of Auburn, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at East Alabama Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Buford Walter Addy Sr. and Louise Hunter Addy. Her family moved to Foley when she was young and she graduated from Foley High School.
She and her husband moved to Auburn in 1962. She worked at Ampex and the Auburn University Vet School before she and her husband opened The Northcutt House and the Blue Room Dining Halls.
She served as friend and surrogate mother to many young college students. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church.
She had a gift of making everyone she came into contact with feel like part of her family. She loved both Auburn University and the city of Auburn. She followed Auburn sports from little league to high school to her beloved AU Tigers. She took pride in her induction in the City of Auburn Dixie Youth Hall of Fame.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Addy; and granddaughter Addy Johndrow.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dewey V. Northcutt of Auburn; and four children Van (Melissa) Northcutt, Walter (Patti) Northcutt, Stacy (Neil) Chase, and Stephanie Johndrow, all of Auburn; 16 grandchildren, Chris (Alyssa) Northcutt, Casey Northcutt, Bradley Northcutt, Sarah Northcutt, Abby Northcutt (boyfriend Tyler Adams), Davis Northcutt, Spencer Northcutt, Mitchell Roland, Hunter Roland, Grayson Roland, Abby Chase, Anna Chase, Ashley Chase, Justin Johndrow, Chad Johndrow, Alli Ann Johndrow, all of Auiburn; two great-grandchildren, Caroline Northcutt and Kate Northcutt, both of Auburn; an d brother, Buford Walter (Margaret) Addy Jr. of Mobile.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Exceptional Outreach Organization, 300 N. Dean Road Suite 5 Box 127, Auburn, AL 36830. Exceptional Outreach is a local organization who provides programs for exceptional individuals with special needs by fostering growth through recreation, education, and social activities.
Visitation begins atg 1:30 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at Auburn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. George Mathison and the Rev. Charles Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery.
