John Harvey Northington of Orange Beach died Saturday, Jan. 26 after a sudden illness.

He was born Feb. 27, 1952 to Albert “Skeeter” and Sarah “Sunshine” Northington. He spent his childhood years in Mobile, Atlanta and Winter Park, Fla., and eventually became a resident of Orange Beach and the Gulf Coast for the past 24 years.

Uncle John to his friends and family, he will always be remembered for his generosity, storytelling, outgoing personality, his love for the natural beauty of the Gulf Coast and of course his love for cooking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Northington and brother-in-law and best friend, Joe McCarron.

Survivors include his long-time companion and friend of nearly 22 years, Barbara Barnes; two sisters, Sally McCarron of Orange Beach and Mimi Strockis; his beloved Winston; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Ken Lambert will officiate.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Community Hospice of Baldwin County, 2770 S. McKenzie St., Foley, AL 36535, Sonshine Ministries, 11327 County Road 26, Foley, AL 36535, or the charity of your choice.
