STOCKTON, Ala. — Saturday’s O Delta Day festival brought approximately 200 people to Lower Bryant Landing in Stockton and raised some $4,500 for the Leah Ann Overstreet Scholarship Fund for Baldwin County High School band members.
A home-made, Huckleberry-Finn style river-raft race took place at noon. Of three rafts entered, the winning raft makers and paddlers were Joel Johnson and James McPherson of the Stagecoach Cafe, according to organizer Tina Covington.
The second-annual event also featured lunch plates from Stagecoach Cafe and Street’s Seafood Restaurant, a water slide, moon walk and dunking booth, Elvis impersonator and a silent auction, Covington said in an email.
Some guests came all the way from Texas to support the memory of friend Leah Ann Overstreet, a former principal and educator who died in October of 2009.
Lisa Holt of Flomaton, who also came to support the scholarship fund and Overstreet’s memory, expressed appreciation of the Baldwin County High School Flag Core and Tigerettes’ performances at the event.
“I thought it was awesome of the girls to perform for something as good as this,” she said.
Event organizer Patsy Robinston also said guests enjoyed the artistic-elements of the festival.
“That was wonderful the way the dancers and the Elvis impersonator (Shane Tucker) performed,” she said.
Robinston pointed out that guests appreciated the various aspects of the festival.
“Everybody always enjoys the silent auction and the lunches,” she said. “Everyone really enjoyed the river-raft races.”
