ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The Best of Show winner at the 2009 Orange Beach Art Center Member’s Show was Marjorie McCullough.

The Member’s Show is an annual art exhibition for the displaying artist members of the Orange Beach Art Center Gallery.

McCullough’s watercolor, “At Home Together At Last,” is a romantic portraiture of a couple from the 1940s.

McCullough works primarily in watercolors, and is a past winner of the Shrimp Festival and Gulf Coast Balloon Festival poster contests.

The theme for this year’s Member’s Show was “At Home.” This theme was interpreted in ways as varied as the OBAC member artists.

From the one sailboat home to the abstracted back yard, the artists placed a portion of their history and sentiment in the works brought for the show

Taking first place at the show was Jan Polk for “Home Away From Home,” an impressionistic oil painting.

Christine Ryan’s beautiful textile work was awarded second place.

The members choose Opal Young to receive the Exhibitor’s Choice Award for “Quilting Bee, A Canvas Quilt.”

The Member’s Show is a part of the 2009 Visiting Artist and Special Exhibition Series sponsored by the Friends of the Arts.

The Friends also bestowed their first Purchase Award to Anne Pearce for a graphite work entitled “At Home.”

This work will become a part of the permanent collection of the Orange Beach Art Center Gallery.
