DAPHNE, Ala.—Prodisee Pantry will host the first Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 30.

The Spanish Fort-based food pantry plans to use the funds raised to offset the cost of providing traditional Thanksgiving holiday food to an estimated 1,250 Baldwin County families. Race participants are encouraged to bring a canned good to donate to the families, said Deann Servos, executive director of Prodisee Pantry.
“We want to be warm and fuzzy and make sure that families feel supported,” Servos said. “When they see these traditional meals and they can’t provide for their families, it’s heartbreaking. So, we want to make sure that we can help provide some on that special day.”
The race is part of the emergency food program’s five-week “It’s About Hunger” program, which is tied to the audio and photographic exhibit “About Hunger and Resilience.” The exhibit lasts until Nov. 12 at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, offering local residents a glimpse into the lives of 30 people across the country who are struggling with hunger or who have emerged stronger from the experience.
Each week Prodisee Pantry volunteers provide around 175 families approximately $120 worth of groceries, the Spanish Fort organization stated.
“We brought this exhibit to Baldwin County to raise awareness, that it truly is about hunger for many local residents,” Servos stated.
