Officer Liles cited as May winner

Posted

OB Officer Scott Liles has won the Island Spirit Award administered by the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce. The award is given based on public recognition and referral of meritorious candidates. Only Liles was surprised by his recognition.

Police Chief Billy Wilkins was not: “Liles is not only a friendly officer, but he’s a genuine friend who has his comrades and the community at heart in everything he does.”

OB City Councilman Jeff Silvers joined in before the bashful Liles could get away, and added that Liles was very involved and welcomed in helping with the youth baseball programs. Silvers said that some adults are motivated to assist when they have their own children in the program, but Liles doesn’t have any, but he’s always there helping.

“When they’re not my kids I can send them home!” he joked. Liles has a sense of humor, and on the professional side he handles bad situations very professionally and courteously: that’s the word on him.

Ask the unarmed security officers at condos such as Brett/Robinson and others about Liles and the other officers with Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. These officers treat the other “Blue Line” with professional respect and assistance. When events and incidents occur demanding their presence, the condo security officers welcome the professional assistance to restore peace or stop illegal activities. Scott Liles is right there when needed — at sports events and law enforcement.
