Officials say capsized boat reported, but nothing found

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Marine officials with the state and Coast Guard spent time Monday evening and early Tuesday searching Perdido Pass after receiving a report of a capsized boat.

Orange Beach police even spread the word on social media sites asking if residents had family or friends on overdue boats.

“That was the report,” Sgt. Jody Kelley of the Alabama Marine Police said. “We searched the area and have yet to find a capsized boat or anybody that was missing with it.”

Crews were out on the water overnight, but still no evidence of a capsized boat has been found.

“I was out until 1 o’clock this morning and the Coast Guard was out on the scene with us,” Kelley said. “We searched the area and we feel confident that the person saw something.”

As of Tuesday morning at 8:30 no new evidence has surfaced on the reported sinking.

“We have yet to be able to confirm that it was a boat or that we’ve got anybody missing and we’ve not received any calls to report anybody missing,” Kelley said. “We didn’t find any debris or the vessel itself.”
