A plethora of puppies and kittens could be found at the PetSmart in the Eastern Shore Shopping Center Saturday afternoon.

Outdoor crates, indoor crates — in every direction — animals were up for adoption.

The Haven, a no-kill, non profit shelter in Fairhope, partnered with a Theodore-based rescue program called Lost Without You Animal Rescue, in attempt to find homes for puppies, dogs, kittens and cats.

Sherry Hance, founder of Lost Without You Animal Rescue, had recently rescued eight black Labrador-Great Dane mixed puppies and they drew quite a bit of attention that afternoon.

Wanderers routinely stopped to scoop up a single puppy from the sleepy puppy pile and hold it for a little while.

The Haven regularly has adoptions at the PetSmart, but is also working busily gearing up for one of its main fundraising events this year.

The Mystics Mutts of Revelry will have its eighth annual parade Feb. 26, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

“It’s a walking parade for mutts and their companions,” said Aimee Egbert, chairperson for this year’s parade.  “It’s getting bigger every year.”

The parade begans at the Fairhope Park, at the corner of Church Street and Morphy Avenue, and the route is a half-mile long.

This year, the Grand Marshals are Joe Emer and Cherish Lombard from Fox10 Studio 10.

Those interested in participating can register the day of the parade at the Fairhoper Community Park for $25 — this includes participation for one dog and two human escorts. Additional escorts and mutts can walk for $5 a head.
