School buses and transit buses. Tires. Cars and trucks. Child safety belts. Chocolate. Cheese spread. Cookies. Boat trailers, horse trailers, asphalt tanker trailers, cargo trailers. Insulin syringes. Ice cream.
All these items have been the subject of recalls of late by the manufacturers. Sometimes it’s the government that makes the manufacturers recall this stuff.
Engines. Automatic transmissions. Homeopathic drugs. Sliced fruit. Recreational vehicles. Orange juice. Meat. Door locks. Peanut butter.
Seriously, defects are a major part of our lives. Everywhere you turn, somebody is recalling something due to defects.
Potato chips. Concrete pump trucks. Campers. Yogurt. Rice products. Motorcycles. Sliced fruit. Dietary supplements. Dog food and cat food. Rice products.
When’s the last time you remember a rocking chair recall? Me, I don’t. OK, ok, I know I’m sounding like a complete ol’ fuddy duddy bringing up the subject of rocking chairs but, honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a rocking chair death. I have heard of people getting hurt in a rocking chair — like when they’d be rocking so vigorously they’d rock off the front porch — but a rocking chair death is basically unheard of.
I’ve got two sleek models setting under the carport. Both green. I go out and “crank” ‘em up practically everyday. I really rock when I rock. No matter how fast I’m going, I’m basically safe when I’m rocking, which is more than I can say for the guy in the fancy sports car whose motor may shut off at any second and lock up his power steering. Heck, I’m even safer than the super model putting on makeup. They’re recalling cosmetics all the time. If you think about it, rocking is better for your health than eating fruit. People get sick all the time from eating fruits and vegetables. Ever heard of a rocking chair with salmonella?
Not only is there the safety factor in rocking, but you get the extra benefit of contemplation. You can think about things in a rocking chair. It can be about life in general or it can be deep stuff, like immortality or truth or good and evil. See, you can think freely because there’s no such thing as getting rear-ended in a rocking chair by a guy with a cell phone in his ear whose accelerator is stuck or a woman putting on eyeliner that’s the subject of a recall.
