Opal M. Young

Opal M. Young, a native of Jayess, Mississippi, born March 18, 1940, and longtime resident of the Gulf Shores area, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Young; her sisters, Louis Nunnery, Joann Beard.

She is survived by her loving partner, Kathy Johnson; brothers, John Wright Young and Britt (Sandra) Young; numerous nieces and nephews; and her devoted dogs, Shadow and Koko.

Opal received her M.S. degree at the University of Southern Mississippi and was a dedicated teacher and a talented artist. She created beautiful art, and her works were shown in art galleries and exhibits in southern Alabama.

Opal loved the outdoors and enjoyed painting nature scenes whenever her brush touched the canvas.

Opal was a member of the Gulf Coast Art Alliance, and her painting was chosen from hundreds of artists to represent the 2010 Jubilee Festival.

A memorial service will be held from the chapel of Pine Rest Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m.
