GULF SHORES, AL - Mayor Robert Craft released this letter to media outlets on May 12:
Recent events have resulted in positive dialogue between Gov. Bentley, the Gulf State Park Enhancement team and our community about the critical need to coordinate all phases of the GSP Project at all levels. Doing so will ensure that enhancements within the scope of the GSP Project can be seamlessly integrated in a way that enhances the quality of life of our residents and our local tourism industry.
We learned from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill that our community’s economy and quality of life are closely tied to the environment. I firmly believe the Gulf State Park Enhancement Project embraces that relationship and will become an international benchmark for environmental and economic sustainability.
I am confident that our recent positive discussions will serve as the foundation for an ongoing collaborative effort with the State to pursue a comprehensive solution to our local infrastructure needs while maintaining harmony with the master plan at Gulf State Park.
