The Lillian Community Club was packed as members of the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay met to thank the many local organizations that are “Friends of Kids”. Approximately $7,000 was distributed to 22 recipients.

Optimist Club of Perdido Bay thanks 'Friends of Kids' organizations

The Lillian Community Club was packed as members of the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay met to thank the many local organizations that are “Friends of Kids”. Approximately $7,000 was distributed to 22 recipients.

Organizations receiving funds include Alabama Sheriff’s Ranch, Baldwin County Special Olympics, Baseball Sponsorship at the Lillian Recreation Park, Baldwin Tech Center, Elberta Elementary and Middle schools Special Needs Kids programs, Elberta Middle Incentive Program, Elberta Elementary School Medical Supplies for the Nurse Foley High School Magnolia Room, Foley Middle School Magnolia House.

Also, Lillian-Perdido Bay Library, Lillian Recreation Park, Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast, Optimist International Childhood Cancer Campaign, OI Hard of Hearing Program, Robertsdale High School Special Education program, St. Benedict School Autism program, Turkeys for Adult retarded Citizens program, Women Build Habitat for Humanity and other youth projects that occur during the year.

Funding for these programs comes from the major fundraiser the Mullet Festival held on Labor Day.

The Optimist Club of Perdido Bay is open to men and women of all ages who are interested in “Bringing Out the Best in Kids”. Meetings are held at 8 a.m. every Saturday at the Lillian Community
