Optimist Club treat kids for Christmas

Posted

One hundred and ten kids and their families were served

breakfast by the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay before Santa and Mrs.

Claus arrived to talk with each boy and girl and distribute

gifts.

Breakfast consisted of blueberry pancakes, biscuits and gravy,

grits, sausage, baked beans, cereal and drinks. Master of

Ceremonies Dick Erwin kept the lively group entertained by leading

in a Christmas sing along. Dozens of Optimist Club members helped

Team Leader Dan Randall by providing the food and clean up, as well

as the purchase, wrapping and distribution of gifts.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived through the courtesy of their

very good friends Jim and Jane Wright. The couple was assisted by

Elf Emily Peebles.

Optimist photographer Sally McKinney took more than 150

Funding for the Christmas parade, gifts for special needs

classes, food baskets for the needy, the breakfast with Santa,

scholarships and other programs throughout the year are funded by

the major fundraiser, the Annual Mullet Festival on Labor Day. The

Optimist Club of Perdido Bay thanks its many friends for their

support.

Those who would like to become a “Friend of Kids” may contact

Bill Cornell, 962-2855, any Optimist member or attend a weekly

breakfast served at 8 a.m. each Saturday morning beginning Dec. 31.

The club is giving the best cooks in the area Christmas Eve

off.
